Six beaches on the doorstep

Some of the finest beaches on the Hook Head peninsula are right on our doorstep, from long designated bathing strands to secluded hidden gems.

  • Duncannon beach: a broad flat strand at low tide, with Duncannon Fort standing on the green headland beyond.

    A designated bathing area roughly a mile long, with great views of Hook Head and, across the river, the Waterford coastline. Duncannon Fort is a short stroll from the beach. There's parking at the water's edge with reserved disabled parking, and toilets open all year round.

  • Dollar Bay: golden sand with small waves running in, beside a tall rocky outcrop, with the coastline visible across the water.

    Just around the corner from Booley Bay, and lovely for an evening swim.

  • Grange beach: a long sweep of sand curving around a shallow bay under a big cloudy sky.

    A sandy beach in Fethard which merges into Banna Beach at low tide. It isn't well sheltered from the wind, which makes it a prime location for water sports like surfing and windsurfing.

  • Baginbun beach: a sheltered horseshoe of pale sand enclosed by green headlands, with a path leading down through the grass.

    A secluded and sheltered beach just outside Fethard-on-Sea. Ideal for families.

  • Booley Bay: a long sweep of golden sand curving into a sheltered bay, backed by green farmland running down to the shore.

    One of Wexford's hidden gems, a very secluded beach on the Duncannon to Hook Head road, nestled in a gorgeous sheltered bay with golden sweeping sand.

  • Carnivan beach: a long strand of pale sand running out to a low headland, with wildflowers on the clifftop in the foreground and swimmers in the shallows.
